Modalities Used

Client Centered

Client centered therapy,  is a non-directive approach to talk therapy that requires the client to actively take the reins during each therapy session, while the therapist acts mainly as a guide or a source of support for the client.

Existential

Existential therapy has four key themes, often known as pillars - death, meaning, isolation and freedom. These are big topics that often cause people anxiety. We work through your anxieties together to help you reach a point of acceptance.

Cognitive Behaviour

CBT is a common treatment for a range of mental health problems. CBT teaches the coping skills for dealing with different problems. It focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions.

ACT

is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment. It aims to help you move forward through difficult emotions so you can put your energy into healing instead of dwelling on the negative.

EFT Tapping

EFT is similar to acupuncture and focuses on how the body channels energy, but instead of puncturing certain points along the “highways” of the body that energy flows through, pressure is applied by tapping with your fingertips. This tapping helps restore the balance of energy in the body and thus can help to alleviate physical, mental, and emotional issues, including healing trauma.

Philosophical

Using the philosophical insights of Taoism, Buddhism, Greek and Existential philosophers such as

Lao Tzu, Jaspers, Merleau-Ponty, Nietzsche, Camus, E.M. Cioran, Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard, Sartre, Heidegger and Husserl to explore the human condition.

DANA

Dana refers to the foundational Buddhist practice of wholehearted Giving, a practice of compassionate, wise activity that arises from meditative awareness. Generosity is a matter of heart, not income.

In accordance with Buddhist traditions, the services at Karuna Counselling are freely offered as Dana.

Dana refers to the economy of generosity where the teachings and services are given freely and those who receive this gift have the opportunity to reciprocate.

In the case of the dana offered from my service, reciprocation in the form of a financial gift is most practical. The aim of dana is to cultivate joy from generosity, and this is an important step on a path of healing and awakening.

The amount you choose to give or not give with dana is completely up to you.

“How much should I give?”
“Is it ok to only give a little?”
“Do I get more if I give more?”

These questions naturally arise in western economic systems where resources must be quantified, gifts are often discouraged, and we are told again and again: “there is no free lunch." Many of us find this system unfair at times, and understand along with the benefits of capitalism, it can also sponsor inequity, hoarding and greed.

The amount you choose to give or not give with dana is completely up to you, and is received without judgement.
