Karuna Counselling

A safe space to explore your journey.

Modalities Used

Client Centered

Client centered therapy,  is a non-directive approach to talk therapy that requires the client to actively take the reins during each therapy session, while the therapist acts mainly as a guide or a source of support for the client.

Existential/Phenomenological

Existential therapy has four key themes, often known as pillars - death, meaning, isolation and freedom. These are big topics that often cause people anxiety. We work through your anxieties together to help you reach a point of acceptance.

Cognitive Behaviour

CBT is a common treatment for a range of mental health problems. CBT teaches the coping skills for dealing with different problems. It focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions.

ACT

is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment. It aims to help you move forward through difficult emotions so you can put your energy into healing instead of dwelling on the negative.

EFT Tapping

EFT is similar to acupuncture and focuses on how the body channels energy, but instead of puncturing certain points along the “highways” of the body that energy flows through, pressure is applied by tapping with your fingertips. This tapping helps restore the balance of energy in the body and thus can help to alleviate physical, mental, and emotional issues, including healing trauma.

Philosophical

Using the philosophical insights of Taoism, Buddhism, Greek and Existential philosophers such as

Lao Tzu, Jaspers, Merleau-Ponty, Nietzsche, Camus, E.M. Cioran, Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard, Sartre, Heidegger and Husserl to explore the human condition.

The ultimate aim of my method is to offer the means for individuals to examine, confront, clarify and reassess their understanding of life, the problems encountered throughout life, and the limits imposed upon the possibilities inherent in living. Therapists strive to assist their clients in regaining greater control and mastery over their lives in order that they may experience a more authentic experience in the world.

Therefore, the aim of the existential phenomenolgical approach to counselling centers on an exploration of someone’s particular way of seeing life, the world and themselves. The goal is to help them to establish what it is that matters to them so that they can begin to feel more in tune with themselves and therefore more real and alive. Before the person can arrange their lifestyle in accordance with their priorities, they must examine their own preoccupations, beliefs and assumptions which stand in the way of personal development much of what has been taken for granted is therefore re-examined in the light of a search for truth about life.
